Keep it Clean!

Based on the weather in the Northeast US this year, you might think that Mother Nature is keeping your car clean for you. Well, unfortunately, this is not the case. All of that rainwater contains unwanted minerals and can actually make your paint look more dull than if it had not gotten wet at all! Also, when you drive in the rain all of the grime and oil from the road gets picked up and thrown onto the exterior of your ride by the cars in front of and around you.

So, it does not take a rocket scientist to understand that you need to wash your ride after every rain storm in order to preserve its delicate paint and clear coat finish. I also recommend an extra coat of wax to help prevent oxidation and grimy buildup too. Taking the time to do a good hand cleaning of the exterior using a cleaner wax or bug and tar remover is also a good way to give your Ride a little extra sparkle after waxing.

Remember to always use a chamois to clean the water off your paint after a wash. This will keep it shiny and sharp between wax applications.

Keep it clean and get some Respect this 4th of July weekend!

Hey car lovers, I made this symbol because I was fed up with guessing what spot would be "ding safe". Even when I parked away from other cars many times I'd come back and sure enough theres someone parked right next to me!

I wanted a better way to 'Know" I was parking next to someone like myself who cherished their ride. The RR emblem is that way, its the symbol or code to all car enthusiasts or those who just keep their ride looking good.

I made the emblem subtle and paint safe, because I know that putting a decal on your ride is taboo for many, myself included. Its clear backed, with a white emblem. It can also be put on the window, and comes off easily. Check out the photos on members rides.

I figured if there are enough of these out there when you park all you need to do is find the RR and then park safe. So if you agree email me and I will send you the sticker, I am charging a buck for postage and my cost to make them. See you in the lots!

When going left is just not right

I want to preface this with the fact that I write this from Dallas, Texas where our roadways are made up primarily of 3 lane two way traffic, other areas of the country may not be typical to this but it is still applicable.

Folks when you are at a stop sign and pulling out into two way traffic consider that most times it is far easier to go right and then do a U-turn 50 yards down the road, rather than wait for all the traffic to be clear so you can cut across all lanes and make your left turn.

To go right is far easier because you only have to wait for a break in the traffic coming from the left. If you are going to turn left you not only have to wait for a break from traffic coming from the left, but also the right. This can take some time and is extremely annoying for those that are behind you turning right.  These roads are set up with numerous opportunities to reverse direction easily.

Its also most times FASTER to do this, I see drivers waiting and waiting for the perfect moment to cross all lanes, when they can just take the right turn and U-turn just down the road.

So next time your at the stop sign, take a moment to assess the traffic situation and make your decision, because going left may just not be right.

Potholes and other common road hazards to avoid while driving your car.

In the past, I have been amazed, no, appalled by some habits, or lack thereof, that some drivers practice. From the vantage point of the passenger’s seat in my friend’s car I watched in horror as the gaping hole in the raod I spotted 50 feet back was on a clear collision course with the right front wheel. The feeling of helplessness was growing as I assumed the driver was just distracted or checking her rear view mirror. But it became clear to me as the horrible sound of the wheel digging deep into the gaping hole in the road resonated through the suspension and then the frame and then into my back, that the driver neither saw the hole nor cared that it was there. Even as the trauma of the collision was still fresh in the air, she seemed oblivious to the whole event as she casually looked in her rear view mirror in as if to say “What was that?”

I believe this behavior to be a common but avoidable mistake and avoiding these sometimes painfully obvious road hazards is something that should not take much consideration. You can do considerable damage to your automobile, which is likely the most expensive item in your possession, while simply driving down the road. Maybe it does take the horrible experience of having to repair broken ball joints or flat tires or getting the front end aligned, again, is what it takes for some folks to pay more attention to the road. I mean, the actual road itself! Hopefully this post will help some of you to realize the importance of this costly mistake that you may have been making since you first sat behind the wheel.

Obviously the driver of any vehicle is constantly on the lookout for other vehicles, pedestrians, dogs, squirrels, armadillos and the ever growing population of bicyclists invading the freeways. To truly practice RideRespect™, you have to watch out for what I like to call “hard” obstacles as well. These hard obstacles consist of, but are not limited to, potholes, sunken manholes, train tracks, construction scars and any other natural obstacles created in storms and floods. I want to state that in the order of importance to practicing safe driving “hard Obstacles” should fall last on the list of priorities when looking out for pedestrians and other live obstacles.

One easily avoidable obstacle is the manhole cover. In some areas, for example, the Northeast US., manhole covers can become sunken over time due to the freezing and thawing of the roads and poor maintenance. Over time, these obstacles can become quite sunken and can cause damage if hit at the right speed and angle. An easy way to avoid these monstrosities is to realize that they are access devices to the structures under the road and follow the length of the road in a relatively straight line. So, if you see one in the middle of your lane, it is very likely that the next one will follow in the same place a little way down the road. So, readjust your position in the lane and keep an eye out for the next one. This will allow you to stay on a steady course in your lane without having to swerve to avoid the next manhole cover.

In the pursuit of practicing and receiving RideRespect™ fully, you must also respect your own personal property so that it will operate safely while giving you years of service. Litter Losers

What is up with throwing trash out from your car or anywhere for that matter. What is the thought process there? Or lack of. Even if its upbringing, isn't there some clue that "hey this is really not right."

Do you park alone?

Park by yourself, waaaaaay away from other cars in the lot? So do we, join us in our movement to take back the parking lots! You need the symbol of respect, Ride Respect!

Get it out there!

Build it and they will come. The more RR stix we have out there the easier it is to find a better spot to park. The idea is simple, how can you know you're not parking next to some dope who'll leave you with a ding in your door. Look for the RR.

If you cant stand door dings and other parking abuse to your ride display the RR and let others know they can park safe.

Parking Lot Hell

This post is for a very specific type of driver. The one that purposely parks at the far end of the parking lot, preferably at the top of a hill or incline, with the specific goal of keeping your ride clear of stray carriages and the ever present soccer mom with SUV and no spacial perception that always seems to park 2 inches away from you freshly washed and waxed car. I get anxiety just writing that last line.

If you plan to go to the mall or grocery shopping at times when most people are eating dinner, at work, or sleeping, then you will understand the concept of RideRespect. You are the same person that cringes at the thought of taking your car through an automated car wash because you know that you are creating more of those unsightly swirls in you clear coat or custom paint job.

We want to educate those that really have no clue, and invite those that do to help us spread the word of Ride Respect. To create and build a netowrk of people that "get" RideRespect and want to find safe havens where they can park in relative safety knowing that they will not have a new ding in the door of their "baby" when they come out after an hour in the mall.

Please feel free to post on our blog and tell us of your parking lot horror stories and report any that you witness in an effort to make these incidents a thing of the past for those that display the RR badge ro solidarity on their ride.

If you gotta talk...

There are those of us out there that can indeed talk on a phone and drive. Then there are those that can't. So to those that cant, I beg of you to at least pay attention to the traffic a little, Others behind you and to your left and right will be appreciative if you dont swerve into their lane and keep your foot on the gas. Dont drive in the passing lane, dont slow down, dont swerve. If you cant then just SHUT UP AND DRIVE!
